Here’s a lesson in simple logic. Or ethics, whichever you like:
“What’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.”
Or, to put it in simple English, do unto others as you would have others do unto you. More to the point, DON’T do unto others what you don’t want them to do unto you – or at least have the honesty to acknowledge that you are a racist or segregationist at heart.
A few cases to highlight the point:
- The Malvinas islands off the Argentinean coast occupied by Britain. Britain insists on calling these islands the Falklands and has gone to war with Argentina over the territory’s sovereignty. To this very day, British Prime Minister David Cameron and his Foreign Minister William Hague insist there will be no handover of the colonised islands to Argentina, and they go so far as to say they will not even entertain any discussion on the subject. About 1000 people died in the war that Britain declared on Argentina in 1982 over the islands’ sovereignty.
William Hague, 14 June 2011:
“There was no discussion about the Falkland Islands with President Obama on his recent visit. The UK’s position remains absolutely the same as it has been under successive Governments since 1982 and it will not change.”
We can for the moment ignore the subject of the Spanish territory of Gibraltar, which Britain continues to occupy despite Spanish protests.
- The USA is the synthesis of a brutal colonial power that corralled North America’s indigenous population, the Native Indians, into reservations. These reservations are rural ghettos located far from areas of significant agricultural or natural-resource value. From being the sole population of North America, American Indians now constitute just 1.5 percent of the population in their native lands.
- Turkey invaded Cyprus in June 1974 and has illegally occupied half the island ever since. The illegal Islamic Turkish occupation of Cyprus continues to this day, accompanied by a deafening silence from the UN. That same deafening silence characterises the UN’s stance on Turkey’s genocide against Armenians and Kurds. See also here, here and here.
- China invaded Tibet back in 1949, destroying 6,000 Tibetan monasteries, murdering a million Tibetans, and carrying out a massive ethnic cleansing programme that involved population transfers of 2 million people: one million Tibetans to China, and one million Chinese to Tibet. See also here.
So why is any of the above relevant in a blog about Israel and the Middle East? For the simple reason that Britain, the USA, Turkey and China are among the many colonial, warmongering, brutal and occupying forces that are attempting to coerce Israel into giving up territory won in Arab wars of aggression against the Jewish state. And they are doing so without showing any trace of embarrassment over the glaring discrepancy with their own previous history and current actions.
Israel secured territory in the Golan Heights and the Jewish provinces of Judea and Samaria including East Jerusalem – from which Jews had previously been ethnically cleansed in an illegal Arab act of aggression. Israel secured this territory in a defensive war that was forced upon it as a means of survival.
Now Britain, the USA, Turkey and China, with millions of deaths on their ample consciences, human rights abuses that beggar belief, and occupation of territory both near and far inscribed in their constitutions, demand that the Jewish state vacate territory it won in wars started by Islamist aggressors.
To the losers go the spoils of war … EXCEPT in the case of Britain, the USA, Turkey and China, it would seem.
There’s a word for this, it’s called hypocrisy.
When the Malvinas, Gibraltar, the USA, Cyprus, Tibet and a host of other occupied territories are returned to their rightful owners, it will indeed be time to turn the world’s attention to drawing up final and unequivocal borders for Israel and its Islamist neighbours. If they can even get Israel’s neighbours to agree to the principle of Israel’s continued existence, that is to say.
Meantime, what’s sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. And if that sauce is too hot to touch in the Malvinas, Gibraltar, the USA, Cyprus and Tibet, it is also way too hot to touch in Jerusalem.
So here’s a suggestion for Britain, the USA, Turkey and China: since you want to turn a blind eye to your own occupations and brutal repressions, how about applying the same principles and tactics to Syria that you are doing to Libya? Or are the Syrians and their Iranian masters too useful a weapon against Israel for you to touch?
